Working Group discussing Goal 8 “Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all”

Achieving sustainable economic growth requires product diversification, technology upgradation and innovation. It also requires entrepreneurship, creativity and growth of medium and small sectors. Goal 8 of the SDGs also specifies as a target that “by 2030, achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men, including for young people and persons with disabilities, and equal pay for work of equal value”
The role of Education in achieving Goal 8 is crucial. Education can enrich people’s understanding of themselves and world. Sustainable economic growth requires substantial investment in human capital. Education can also improve the quality of life and lead to broad social benefits. It raises people’s productivity and creativity and promotes entrepreneurship and technological innovation. In addition it can help in securing economic and social progress as well as improve income distribution.
Objectives

  • Explore the role of Education in creating and developing sustainability strategies on product diversification, technology change and development of innovation.
  • Dialogue on job creation through training on local entrepreneurship and creativity particularly with reference to tourism, small and medium enterprises in the context of Sustainable Development.
  • Define approaches for inclusive skill development, equal pay for work of equal value for all including women and the differently abled
  • Examine ways of creating awareness for effective measures to eradicate forced labour, human trafficking, child labour, protection of labour rights and promotion of safe and secure working environments for all workers.
